Social Assistance Overview
The Gambia introduced its work injury law in 1940 and old age, disability, and survivors and sickness and maternity after the 1960 independence. It introduced a social assistance programme named the Family Strengthening Programme in 2011. The programme focuses on strengthening the income-generation capacities and livelihood security of poor and vulnerable families.
